Join the Amherst Community Band and be part of our 250th anniversary celebration this summer.

The Amherst Community Band is inviting musicians of all ages both amateur and professional to help celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary. The music will be a mix of historical selections, such as American Civil War Fantasy, American River Songs, Songs about Kentucky, Fanfare for the Common Man as well as traditional patriotic selections, such as Stars and Stripes Forever, Washington Post, America the Beautiful . There also will be music to celebrate our heritage such as Lift Every Voice and Sing, and music by Duke Ellington, which will help our audiences appreciate the unique rich American culture we are a part of.

The first concert will be held at Sweetser Park June 27. It will be sponsored by the Amherst Historical Society. On July 3, Amherst Recreation will sponsor a large, festive carnival-like celebration ending with fireworks at UMass’ McGuirk Alumni Stadium. The band will be featured, performing the same type of American music.

Playing in the Amherst Community Band is free. These two concerts will be conducted by Dave Morris with Lexie Black as assistant conductor. Rehearsals begin Monday, June 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at UMass’s George N. Parks Minuteman Marching Band Building on 110 Grinnell Road. If interested, please visit the website at amherstband.org where you will find the Join Us link and fill out the form so a music folder can be created for you. Rehearsals begin June 8.

Playing in the Amherst Community Band will bring pleasure to both the musician as well as the community audiences. We’re hoping many new members will join. We also welcome the public to attend these free events as well.
