Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day. Town Halls, schools, banks, libraries, senior centers will be closed. If you have time visit the cemeteries that have placed flags on veterans’ graves and remember the sacrifice. Thank you to all who have served.

Garden report: the rhododendron have bloomed. I have planted beets, onions, broccoli, radish, beans, oregano, lavender and golden thyme. This weekend I will do peppers, tomatoes, basil and cucumbers. Then the fences get installed to keep the critters out.

Ted Mone and Jeanne Horrigan of Amherst hand delivered two postcards from their recent trip to Europe. One card featured Versailles from an 1668 painting, the other the number 11 red double- decker bus in London.

The warmth on Sunday brought out the ice cream lovers. I drove on South Maple Street past the Flayvors of Cook Farm and the waiting line continued off the porch. They must have the asparagus ice cream available.
