Garden report: the hosta have blossoms as well as the potato plants. I harvested basil and oregano for the tomato sauce I made using last year’ s tomatoes. I need to use up the frozen tomatoes to make room for the new batch, which are getting closer to harvest, maybe next week.

Dennis Vandal of the Friends of the Amherst Senior Center sent me an email about the monthly Meet and Greet that will be held Wednesday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at Atkins Market under the pavilion. It’s free and coffee and doughnuts are served. People talk to each other without devices except hearing aids.

The town is alive with the sound of music. Quintets for piano and strings , a concert to benefit Amherst Ballet, will be held Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the studio, 65 Sunderland Road. For tickets visit info@amherstballet.org. The summer concert series, sponsored by the Business Improvement District, continues Friday, July 24 at 5 p.m. on the Town Common with Jazz in July students and faculty performing. It’s free and open to the public. Bring chairs or blankets.
A West African Drumming Workshop will be held Saturday, July 25 at 3 p.m. at Munson Memorial Library, according to an email from Janet Ryan, head of programming and outreach at the Jones Library. Instruments will be provided. The program, which is free and open to the public, is for those 14 and older. Registration is required, call 259-3096.
The Amherst Community Band will perform Saturday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Sweetser Park. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring chairs or blankets.

Note to self: avoid University Drive while it is under construction. The only saving grace is that the work is being done now, not the day students arrive.
