The Amherst boys basketball team’s offense came alive in its 90-74 victory over SICS on Friday night.
The Hurricanes set a new single-game season-high in points scored in the winning effort, with Mitchell Carey and Sam Woodruff leading the charge for Amherst.
Woodruff led all players with 25 points, while Carey was just behind, concluding the game with 24.
Ahead 40-28 at halftime, the ‘Canes banked in 50 more points in the final two quarters to improve to 10-4 on the season.
Amherst has three regular season games remaining and all three are at home, beginning Monday, Feb. 2 against Chicopee.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Smith Voc 71, Westfield Tech 57 — The Vikings used a 28-point third quarter to pull away with the win against the Tigers.
Smith Voc earned a seven point lead at the break (29-22), but came out firing in the third to earn its second win in a row.
Dom Sanchez netted 23 points to lead the Vikings, while Theo Wojcik (16 points), Josh Cole and Nate Gruszkowski (12 points each) reached double figures.
Hampshire 80, Ludlow 71 — Braylon Jarrett’s big night helped the Raiders halt their losing streak.
Jarrett tallied 25 points as Hampshire picked up its first win since Jan. 16.
Vynce Carr (18 points), Joseph Moro (16 points) and Isaiah Isa (12 points) also secured double-digit point totals for the Raiders.
Science & Tech 66, Northampton 55 — Blue Devils’ Brayden Nichols-Staples scored a game-high 25 points in the loss.
Northampton’s Eli Reid and Mason Tait also combined for more than 20 points.
Athol 41, Smith Academy 24 — The Falcons took their sixth straight loss, despite jumping out to an 11-5 lead after the first quarter.
Girls basketball
Pope Francis 70, Belchertown 59 — The Orioles ran out of gas against the Cardinals in the loss.
Belchertown led 26-19 after eight minutes of action, but Pope Francis found its footing in the second quarter and went into the halftime break up one (35-34).
Aubrey Klingensmith was great for the Orioles, totaling 24 points, including four shots from 3-point land. Kina Roy added 14 points and Morghan Litz bucketed 10 to round out Belchertown’s top three scorers.
SICS 53, Holyoke 31 — The Purple Knights’ losing streak extended to three games following the defeat to the Bulldogs.
Holyoke dropped to 3-6 in Valley Wheel play.
