Amherst Survival Center: providing purpose
With the recent government shutdown and all the talk of food insecurity, it’s never a bad time to be thankful for the resources we have in our community.
I hope we all know what the Amherst Survival Center means to our community. In addition to providing supplies to those in need, it also supplies something else: dignity. Twice now, I have found purpose through the ASC.
The act of volunteering does something for a person. At the basic level, it takes your mind off whatever life has given you. Listening to a podcast does the same. But with volunteering, it’s different. You are actively engaged in something that you know, in the littlest way, is helping your community.
For all the good the ASC does for our community, through its volunteer opportunities it provides purpose, meaning, and a sense that you are contributing to humanity. And for that, I will always be thankful to the Amherst Survival Center.
