HOLYOKE — A crash involving a motorcycle and car on Interstate 91 North left one person seriously injured Friday morning, Massachusetts State Police said.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m near the border of Easthampton and Holyoke. A 63-year-old Granville, Massachusetts man was on a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a 64-year-old Granville woman on the back driving north on I-91 when they were rear-ended by a BMW driven by a 26-year-old Springfield woman, state police said.
Both people on the motorcycle were transported to Baystate Medical Center, the driver for an evaluation and the passenger for treatment of serious injuries. State police were not able to provide an update on their conditions Friday afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash is not injured, state police said, and no charges have been filed.
State police said previously that the motorcycle passenger died but later made a correction.
Traffic was backed up for miles on I-91 northbound, and all lanes have been re-opened.
State police said they are not sure exactly how the accident happened and an investigation is underway.
