Garden report: The lisianthus have bloomed. I have harvested tomato, green pepper and onions. I’m not sure if the potatoes are ready but will try.
Mary Jo Maffei of Shutesbury sent an email about an open garden at her home Sunday, Aug. 16 from 2-4:30 p.m., she lives at 533 West Pelham Road in Shutesbury. It’s free and open to the public. Visiting gardens is so calming.
Alice Zakaitis of Amherst sent me an email to note that her granddaughter Kaelyn was named an Easton NFCA All American Scholar Athlete for having a 3.50 GPA. Her average is actually 4. She plays on the Elms College softball team. A photo of the scholar athletes was included with the email.
Ginette Gomez of Amherst sent an email about the St. Brigid’s Parish Picnic that will be held Sunday. Aug. 16 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the church of which I am a member. The picnic includes food, games, music and raffle. There is a corn hole competition. Tickets are $10. Children are free. The picnic is open to the public.
Historic Northampton is holding a series of gallery talks, “Slavery in Northampton 1654-1783,” Aug. 13 and 20 at 5 p.m. and Aug. 22 and 29 at 3 p.m. The email says to pay what you wish.
You won’t be able to reach China via the potholes on University Drive in front of the Post Office. They have been filled in and the orange cones are gone.
