HADLEY — After more than a decade as treasurer and 2½ years as Hadley’s first finance director, Linda Sanderson is retiring from both positions.
The Select Board on Wednesday voted unanimously to accept Sanderson’s retirement, and afterward named Dede Dibrindisi, the assistant treasurer, to the permanent treasurer position.
First elected by voters in 2015 to a position that has since become appointed by the Select Board, Sanderson will conclude her employment next week, though she anticipates being available to provide assistance.
“It has been a pleasure,” Sanderson said of the job. Once elected, Sanderson said she took to the work right away and appreciated the growing responsibilities each year, staying on because of these added challenges.
“And Hadley has certainly provided that,” Sanderson said.
Sanderson’s job has expanded to preparing budgets and explaining details of spending to both the Select Board and Finance Committee, as well as on the floor of Town Meeting.
The Select Board issued a proclamation citing Sanderson’s decades of dedicated service to the community, starting in 1987 as a member of the Finance Committee, becoming a Hampshire County commissioner for Hadley for five years in the 1990s and then transitioning from her career as an attorney to the treasurer position.
The proclamation states Sanderson has provided “invaluable financial guidance, sound judgment and steadfast leadership.”
Dibrindisi said Sanderson has been a great mentor since joining the treasurer’s office in 2024, and that she has been taking classes to get up to speed on the work.
After previously serving as the building permits coordinator, Dibrindisi said she wanted to continue working for the town, noting her employment also started in 2015.
“I’ve always been happy to work with this town so I don’t really want to leave it,” Dibrindisi said.
Sanderson said Dibrindisi is well positioned to take on the new role.
