Sunday, June 21 is also the summer solstice. Visit the UMass Sunwheel near the stadium to see the sun line up with the standing stones at sunrise and sunset. Check the web site for exact times.

Wildwood Cemetery celebrates the solstice with a performance by Robert Rivest: “Holding On To the Light” that includes mime, movement, and spoken word stories, to help us celebrate the solstice and honor our loved ones, Saturday, June 20 from 4 to 5 p.m., according to an email from Rebecca Nordstrom. The event will be held rain or shine. Refreshments will be served. It is free and open to the public with donations welcome, she wrote.

Friends of Lake Warner will hold a fundraiser concert featuring Karrin Allyson and Miro Sprague Sunday,  June 21 at 4 p.m. at the North Hadley Congregational Church, 243 River Drive, Hadley, according to an email from Michele Friedman of Hadley.

The Garden Club of Amherst is sponsoring the talk, “In Unison: Creating Harmonious Combinations for Pollinators and You,” by author and horticulturist Tovah Martin, Wednesday, June 24 at 12:30 p.m. at the Munson Memorial Library,  according to an email from Leslie Lorber, president of the club. Admission is $5 to support GCA Scholarship Program for UMass students.

Jeanne Horrigan of Amherst said the next Senior Sips is Thursday, June 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Commonwealth Room at the Worcester Dining Common on the UMass campus. Snacks are provided. You pay for your beverage.

The Amherst History Center will host an opening reception for its exhibition,In Defense of our Just Rights & Liberties: Amherst in the Revolution,” on Thursday, June 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Amherst History Center, 45 Boltwood Walk. The event is free and open to the public, according to an email from Liz Larson, Executive Director of the Historical Society.

The Wildwood Elementary School Community Farewell will be held Monday, June 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., according to an email from fifth grade teacher Sarah Bing-Owen. Anyone with a Wildwood connection or just wants to say goodbye is welcome. The event includes a trivia game, desserts to share, a parade with the Expandable Brass Band, and a time to share stories, she wrote.

The Amherst Community Band begins its summer season Saturday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Sweetser Park. It’s free. Bring chairs or blankets. The band will also play July 25 and Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Sweetser Park and Aug. 18 on the South Amherst Common in conjunction with the South Church chicken barbecue. 

The band also will play at the fireworks July 3. Amherst is celebrating the Fourth of July on July 3. Please note the date difference.

I have now become a statistic. I had a tick bite. Of the seven visits to the doctor that morning, four had tick bites. I was number five.
