Danielle Raad will speak on “Memory and History of Mount Holyoke “ Saturday, May 2 at 4 p.m. at the Forbes Library in Northampton.  The talk is sponsored by the library and Historic Northampton. It is free and open to the public.

Naturalist John Green will lead a bird walk Sunday, May 3 at 8 a.m. at the Friends of Lake Warner peninsula trail off Stockbridge Road, Hadley, according to an email from Michele Morris-Friedman of Hadley.  The walk will benefit the Friends of Lake Warner, a non-profit dedicated to maintaining Lake Warner’s water quality, wildlife and recreational use. Cinco de Mayo (the Fifth of May) commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely 1862 victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla, symbolizing unity and patriotism. It is not Mexican Independence Day, according to info on the internet. However, it is a time to celebrate Mexican culture, history, art and food. May 5 is a Tuesday.

The Northampton Educational Foundation Plant Sale will be held Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smith  Vocational and Agriculture High School on Locust Street in Northampton, according to an email from Mandy Gerry of Northampton.

Friends who Paint will have an exhibit, “Convergence” at the Leverett Library in May and June, according to an email from Susan Mulholland of Leverett. An opening reception will be held May 9 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

I believe in miracles. The patch of pavement under the rail trail bridge on Snell Street has been paved! Motorist don’t have to maneuver to avoid the potholes and oncoming vehicles. It was a challenge getting under that bridge. Thank you to the pavers. 

It’s a real rotary at the intersection of Amity Street and University Drive. It’s dirt but you do make a circle.
