Stop saying “Trump.” It is our distracting obsession with shiny personalities that has allowed the Republican Party to enact its essential project, of cutting the size of our government, and lowering income taxes on the wealthy, and reducing the protections our already impoverished and working people have from them.

It’s the Republicans who control Congress as well as the presidency and the Supreme Court. And despite our journalists’ fixation on the shiny object’s entertaining oscillations and uniqueness, it is the Republican Party’s success that we are undergoing.

Stop being entertained and either pleased or displeased by his dance and his patter. While you’re watching him, the Republican Party is removing your government’s protections of your health, and playing dangerous games with your future.

And whether or not they are able to interfere with the next election, they will be here building on their current success, after he’s gone.

Stop saying “Trump,” what we are undergoing is Republican politics and the Republican goals that haven’t changed since Ronald Regan or Barry Goldwater.

This is your government on Republican policies.

Take your mind off the shiny object and fix it on the well-dressed hucksters standing behind and around it.
