Joe Gannon’s column “The People’s Infrastructure Party: Fix our democracy or lose it” [Gazette, Jan. 8] is right on the button. The five-point prescription of banning gerrymandering, eliminating special interest money, implementing rank-choice voting, dispensing with the Electoral College, and instilling transparency to all political donations is the basis for a non-partisan renewal of our corrupt political system. I do favor the name “Democracy Renewal Movement,” because the effort should not be a party, in and of itself.
That said, Democrats could find this a winning argument. Their response to the president’s campaign to gerrymander districts in red states should be the elimination of the practice all together. And to Mr. Gannon’s suggestion, use artificial intelligence to create fair representation.
If Mr. Gannon, or anyone else, is setting up the movement, I’m all in to volunteer.
