Thanksgiving greetings to all our friends and neighbors.

In Amherst, Town Hall, the libraries, schools and Bangs Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28. Banks will be closed Thursday only.

Many organizations , businesses and schools are holding food drives, coat, mitten and scarf drives. In addition survival centers, the Western Mass Food Bank and food pantries in the region need financial help. Donations at all levels are needed.

One major fundraiser is Monte Belmonte’s annual walk from Springfield to Greenfield to support the Western Mass Food Bank. Walkers are welcome to join him at any point.

The Amherst Woman’s Club, of which I am a member, is hosting a fundraising  concert, Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. at the club house on Triangle Street. UMass string students will perform chamber music. Tickets at the door. Reception follows the program.

Gallery A3 will hold a holiday show and sale, “Small Wonders,” with an opening reception Thursday., Dec. 4 from 5-7 p.m. The show continues until Dec. 23. The gallery is open Thurs.- Sun. From 2-7 p.m. Extended hours for the holiday are scheduled Dec. 17, 22 and 23 from 2-7 p.m.

The cold weather hit the pink begonia on Saturday night. The flower pot is now in the garage and will hibernate until the spring. However, the Thanksgiving cactus has buds and should be in bloom for the holiday.
