Ted Mone, Jeanne Horrigan and John Horrigan , all of Amherst, sent email photos of the gardens at Donrobin Castle in Scotland. The variety of flowers in bloom was amazing. It was the day we had frost in town, they wrote. They kept up with the weather and temperatures by reading the Gazette online.

The Valley Light Opera celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with performance of, “H.M.S. Pinafore,” the first production it presented at Amherst Regional High School in 1975. I was there.
The VLO will perform Pinafore Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 9 and 10 at 2 p.m. at the Academy of Music in Northampton.

Liz Larson, executive director of the Amherst Historical Society, sent me an email about the Mabel Loomis Todd birthday concert. The Cushman String Quartet will perform Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Amherst History Center on Boltwood Walk. The concert is free and open to the public.
Liz also sent the following email. “If you could let your readers know that from now through Thanksgiving, the Amherst History Center will have free admission for those bringing a canned good for the Amherst Survival Center to support the community during these challenging times.” It’s a very good idea to support the Survival Center. Thank you History Center.

Again I was surprised that holiday items are out before Halloween. I look forward to seeing Valentine decorations at Thanksgiving.
