Garden report: I was clearing the raised beds of the dead stalks when I found a cucumber and a handful of beans under the weeds. I left the eggplants and pepper plants since there are more to be harvested.

Attorney Michael Serduck of Amherst will be honored at a Red Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield Sat., Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. where he and six other attorneys will receive the St. Thomas More Award. The St. Thomas More Society is a voluntary association of Catholic lawyers, judges and court personnel.

The Amherst League of Women Voters, of which I am a member, will hold a series of candidate forums beginning Wed., Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Regional High School library. The forums continue Oct. 15 and 23, same time, same place.

Oct. 11 is the deadline to sign up for the Pickleball Tournament to benefit the Jones Library, according an email from Kathy Lanza of Amherst. The tournament will be held all day Nov. 9 at the Bay Road Multi Sports Center. There will be food, raffles and prizes.

Robin Wood of Amherst sent stunning email photos of Nunavut, Canada, which is the geographic center of the county according to one photo. Another photo was of the Northern lights while a third showed the treeless tundra.

Liz Larson sent a postcard of a display at a museum from Tokyo, Japan. She wrote, “ This museum is like a historical society for the older more traditional parts of Tokyo.” Not surprising she would visit the museum since she is the director of the Amherst Historical Society and its museum now located at Boltwood Walk.
