Garden report: the flowers are still blooming. I have been watering to keep them thriving. I made a gallon of tomato sauce, which is now in the freezer. A friend reported canning 45 pints of sauce!

Wildlife ecologist Brad Timm will lead a nature walk around the Cherry Hill Cohousing property on Mon., Sept. 29 at 5 p.m., according to an email from Henry Lappen of Amherst. A talk will be held at 7 p.m., with a break for dinner at 6. Bring your own food or contact Henry at wow@henrylappen.com to reserve a meal, he wrote. Admission by donation.

The annual roast pork dinner will be held at the South Amherst Congregational Church, Sat., Oct. 4 with dine in person at 5 p.m. Take out is available from 5-6 p.m. The menu includes vegetables with apple crips for dessert. A vegetarian option is available. For reservations call 253-2577.

The annual Conway Festival of the Hills will be held Sun., Oct. 5 from 9 a.m.- to 4 p.m.  with a parade, road race, log splitting contest, skillet toss, music and food, according to an email from Heather Lantz of Conway.  It’s free.

Happy 60th Anniversary wishes to Boyd & Janice Kynard, Amherst residents since 1978. Janice has been a realtor in town for more than 40 years, most recently with William Raveis Real Estate, and Boyd was a professor at UMass for many years, before working at the Silvio O. Conte Anadromous Fish Laboratory, according to their daughter Kari Ridge. Boyd is CEO of his own ecological consulting business, BK-Riverfish. Besides Kari, the couple have a son, Brian.

Mary Carey and Brian Shultz of Amherst sent a postcard of Alaskan wildflowers from the North Pole in Alaska where they went to chase the Northern lights. They rode on a historic paddle boat down the Chena River, relaxed in hot springs, visited Denali National Park and rode a dog cart, according to the card.

Thanks to all the volunteers who put on the Downtown Block Party and the District One North Amherst Community Pot luck last week. I went to both and enjoyed seeing so many people in person. I still have memories of COVID isolation anxiety.
