Garden Report: the marigolds, snap dragon, calendula, lisianthus, asters, cosmos, celosia, morning glory, dahlias and petunias  are still in bloom for these late summer days. I use water from the dehumidifier for the plants. Harvested three more eggplants and basil.
Summer will be over and fall officially begins on the equinox Mon., Sept. 22 at 2:19 p.m.

The Friends of the Amherst Senior Center will hold a pop-up closet fundraiser Sat., Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Amherst Farmer’s Market on the Common. Buy items to make you look better.

The Friends will get together again at  a meet and greet Thursday., Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at the outdoor pavilion at Atkins. All the Town Council candidates have been invited, according to an email from Jeanne Horrigan of Amherst. The incentive — free coffee and donuts.

Spend Sunday Sept. 21  at the Mill River Recreation Area. Start with the CRESS (Community Responders for Equity, Safety Security) Day from noon until 4 p.m.  that includes family, fun and food. It’s free and open to the public. Then stay for the North Amherst Community District One potluck that runs from  4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Hetty Startup of Amherst sent an email noting that pizza, hot dogs, ice cream and utensils will be provided. Bring a dish to share. It’s free and open to the public.

Michael  Sedrick of Amherst sent me an email about the 100th anniversary celebration of St. Brigid’s Church, of which I am a member. A mass celebrated by Bishop Byrne of Springfield will be held Sat., Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. followed by a reception.

The traffic light has been randomly working at the corner of South Pleasant Street and Route 9. I was pleasantly surprised at how everyone took turns getting through the intersection. Motorists stopped for pedestrians crossing the street. Thank you to all the courteous drivers.
