AMHERST — Town Common will be filled with amusement rides, carnival games and various food and drink booths when the annual Rotary Club of Amherst Town Fair returns on Friday.

An event that first started in the 1950s, and for many years was held in the spring, Fanelli Amusements is bringing a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, climbing wall and various other rides to the green for three days.

Starting Friday at 5 p.m., the community fair will remain open until 10 p.m., then resumes Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m. and concludes Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Various special deals for the rides are being offered by Fanelli, including wristbands for $35 for day-long riding on Friday and Sunday and super wristbands for $40 for day-long riding on Saturday. Tickets for $1.50 each can also be purchased, with each ride typically needing between three and six tickets.

The Rotary uses money from the fair to provide scholarships to local students and assist nonprofits through donations, with annual awards made through its Community Grant Program.

Money is raised both through beverages sold by the Rotary at its tent, as well as the payment from Fanelli.

The Rotary Club meets at noon on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Inn on Boltwood.
