Garden report: I harvested several tomatoes. They ripened all at once. I also picked peppers, cucumbers and green beans. Something is nipping the top of the parsley. The New Guinea impatiens bloomed. The weeds are doing splendidly.

It’s show time. Theater productions are gearing up. 1. Valley Players will present the”It’s a Wonderful Life” in December. It is set in a late 1940s radio station. Performers will read from a script. Each actor will have to play up to 10 roles each. Auditions will be held Sept. 2 and 4 at the Bangs Center.For audition slots visit: valley players.org.
2. Amherst Community Theater will present the ” Wizard of Oz” in January. Performers ages 7-107 are needed. Auditions will be held Sept. 12-14 at the Amherst Regional Middle School. For details visit:amherstacts.org/audition.

Gallery A3 is holding a juried show, “United We Stand,” Art for divisive times from Aug. 7-30. The opening reception is Aug. 7 from 5-8 p.m. The gallery is open Thursday.-Sun. from 2-7 p.m. It’s free.

The Emily Dickinson Museum is hosting an art installation, “A Something Overtakes the Mind,” created by artist Ligia Bouton and poet Matt Donovan. The opening reception is Friday, Aug. 8 from 5-7 p.m. There is no charge to view the installation. It will be on view Thurs. to Sun. from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. until Dec. 31.

I shouldn’t be surprised, after all it is before Labor Day, to see Halloween decorations in a store. I also drove through a neighborhood and saw Halloween decorations on the front lawn. However, it is discouraging. Perhaps it is an attempt to think of cooler weather in this heat.
