As the calendar turns to June and construction season ramps up throughout the region, I would like to express my gratitude to the men and women of the Hadley Police Department for their great work in keeping us safe and moving along Route 9 amid the ongoing widening project.

I go to my office at Old Colony Law right in the heart of it all every day and I’ve seen them in action. Whether it’s promptly clearing a narrow road for an emergency vehicle; finding the right balance in traffic flow; or sparking a friendly chat during a brief holdup, they’ve been excellent stewards of Route 9 amid this enormous construction endeavor.

Having to endure the daily commute, I admit impatience kicks in once in a while. But the truth is I’ve never had more than a 15-minute or so holdup. Having lived in Boston and Washington, D.C., trust me, folks: This isn’t that bad. But avoid it if you can.

All is fine on Route 9, thanks to the blue line. Thank you, officers, for your good work.
