Here is what I would like President Biden to say in response to the discovery of classified documents under his control from his tenure as vice president at a residence and a think tank, beyond his stated and appropriate intent to cooperate with an investigation.

“I am mortified that these documents were not provided to the national archives as required in a timely manner. I want to know as much as anyone else does how this occurred. I want the Department of Justice to get to the bottom of this and let me along with the rest of the American people know how this happened. No such documents should ever stray out of secure control. I ask my Republican friends to join me in affirming clearly and forthrightly that they agree with me about this in all cases and that this a not a partisan concern.”

Then we can all have a quiet moment listening to the crickets.
