The approval of the Tilton Library renovation is no surprise. The fact remains that only 40% of registered voters participated while 100% will be affected by the financial and social implications with the library board controlling the use of the extended space. Our relocation to South Deerfield offered needed services, including a senior center and library, within walking distance. Within a year the Senior Center was closed and space rented in a local church hall, lately supplemented by a drop in location in Sunderland. The historic church between the old brick building and the Tilton stands empty, though considered for use as a senior center. I suggested to the Select Board that it would make a fine community center where senior support, music, theatre, dancing, and fine arts could be fostered for all ages. Surely diversity begins with our various stages in life, by both informing and strengthening a community spirit.
