Garden report: It rained!

Labor Day is over, and the schools and campuses are in session. Events can fill up a calendar.

Here are a few of the many that are scheduled. Check the papers and websites for all the possibilities that are available.

The Amherst History Museum begins its History Bites series Friday, Sept. 9, at noon via Zoom. Blair Kamin, an Amherst College grad, will speak about the impact of the 1938 hurricane and World War II on the campus landscape. It’s free.

The Amherst Woman’s Club, of which I am a member, has two events. A concert by Bella Voce will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m at the clubhouse on Triangle Street. Tickets are $12 and available at the door. It’s the first of a series of Sunday afternoon music programs.

On Monday, Sept. 12, the club is holding an open house from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for potential members. Tours of the building and grounds, information about charities the club supports and refreshments are part of the event.

Kari Ridge of Leverett sent me an email about the final Artisan Market of the season at the Leverett Village Co-op on Rattlesnake Gutter Road. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon until 4 p.m. Leverett author Claire Hopley will have signed cookbooks available. The event includes food and music.

The downtown Block Party is back in person. On Thursday, Sept. 15, from 5 to 9 p.m., part of North Pleasant Street will be closed to accommodate the music, performances, food, games and groups distributing information. It’s free. Thanks to the BID (Business Improvement District) and all the volunteers that make it happen.
