HADLEY — Hadley Senior Center is extending its open hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The center, located at 46 Middle St., will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on those days, instead of closing at 4 p.m.

The new schedule and addition of six hours went into effect Sept. 1 following a unanimous vote by the Select Board. The decision came after an earlier vote by the Council on Aging.

“We seek to be accessible to older adults who are still working and just not be able to visit the center or utilize the resources there during the 9 to 4 business hours,” Senior Services Director Hayley Wood told the Select Board.

Activities during the extended hours include use of exercise equipment in the fitness room, billiards and ping-pong, use of the creativity room for art making, and spending time in the living room, where free Wi-Fi is available.

The building will be staffed, with someone at the reception desk who can register participants for other programs and activities, and answer questions.

Medical release forms signed by a person’s primary care provider are required for use of the fitness room and for all exercise classes. Non-Hadley residents are welcome to drop in.

The added hours will not increase the budget for the Senior Center, Wood said, as she and other paid staff are adjusting their own schedules.
