Garden report: The phlox and hosta have bloomed. The cucumbers are getting bigger. I have four carrots that germinated. If all goes well, I will have a tomato by the end of the week.
Monday’s rain was a joy and blessing.

Jim Pistrang of Amherst sent me an email about the grand opening of the new Amherst dog park, set for July 27 at 10 a.m. The dog park is located on Old Belchertown Road. I assume the refreshments will be dog biscuits and bowls of water.
He said a Friends of the Amherst Dog Park group is being formed to work with the town to support the park. Persons interested in joining the group should send an email to friends@amherstdogpark.
The event should cause a lot of tail wagging.

I received a great email from Diane Dubuque. Here it is.
“I graduated high school at ARHS in 1970. Our 50th class reunion came up as COVID first hit. We’ve postponed 3X and now have a definite date. We’d like to post the announcement for this reunion if you could. Being this delayed, we’re combining the class of 71 with us.
“Today we happily announce the schedule for our combined reunion for the entire weekend of Sept. 9-11, including a main banquet, musical event, and outdoor barbecue.
“Since so many of us have been immunized, and at least as of this time, infections are down substantially, we are cautiously proceeding. One of the reasons we are going to have an open event one of these three days, will be to create an even safer atmosphere. So much time has passed, and because this pandemic will continue at least as an endemic, we feel strongly about getting together while we still can.”
The dinner will be held at the Summit View, Holyoke; and there will be a Music Reunion Day and a barbecue at Summit View Pavilion.

Penny Stevens of Amherst told me the ARHS classes of 1981 and 1982 are having a reunion the last weekend of July. She said Ann Fredrickson is in charge.

Amherst has a new roundabout at the curve in the road on Snell Street near the vet’s office. It’s small. It accommodates the new commercial/residential building Barry Roberts is doing at the corner of Route 9 and University Drive. I was trying to figure out why it would be needed. If people are driving west on Snell want to get into the building’ss parking lot, they would have to cut in front of cars going East on Snell. That could be a challenge.
The new paving is appreciated.
Save the dates: Aug. 6, 13 and 27 for the Strings at Strong free concert series at 2 p.m. at the Strong House Museum on Amity Street. Details to come.
