Three reminders this week.

Reminder 1: Sunday, Oct. 31, is Halloween. Please be careful if you are driving that night. Thank you.

Reminder 2: This is a big one — real estate taxes are due Monday, Nov. 1. Some people make automatic payments electronically. Others, that includes me, like to pay in person and get the paper receipt.

Also, there may be Halloween candy left at Town Hall. For many years, pre-COVID, there was a bowl of candy on the counter. When the building was closed, payment was made via the collection box outside the door.

Reminder 3: Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 2. The polls in Amherst will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. I will be a poll worker at Crocker Farm, Precinct 7. Sorry, no Halloween candy there. The current title for poll worker, as contrasted to Constance and warden, is “inspector.”

David and Betsy Mullins of Amherst sent a card of a waterfall in Godafoss, Iceland. They wrote they had a wonderful trip and saw lots of beautiful waterfalls. The postcard photo had six waterfalls of different sizes flowing into a river or lake — couldn’t tell from the angle.

The calendar has turned and so has the temperature. It’s brisk in the morning. However, the stores have made the switch even quicker. Before Halloween, the Christmas decorations were out! I want to get to Thanksgiving first.

The Valley Light Opera sent an announcement about its fall production, “The Pirates of Penzance,” which will be performed Nov. 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at the Academy of Music in Northampton. Audience members have to be masked and show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

Order tickets at the Academy website or in person at the theater. Check the website for in-person hours. My friends and I have ordered our tickets.
