HADLEY — A former bank on South Maple Street, at the edge of the Mountain Farms Mall parking lot, is on the market for nearly $1.6 million.
In July, PeoplesBank closed the 5 South Maple St. location that it opened in 2000.
The decision to close the banking center comes as a result of fewer people using that location, said Matthew Bannister, senior vice president for marketing.
“We are always evaluating our banking centers and trying to maximize their effectiveness, and finding the right balance between in-person and digital approaches,” Bannister said.
PeoplesBank determined that customers could continue to be well served through banking centers in Amherst and a new one in South Hadley, which has VideoBanker Interactive Teller Machines, VBITMs, Bannister said.
“We are still committed to Hadley, and the area, as we have many customers who live or work there,” he said.
Colebrook Realty Services, Inc., is listing the 3,219-square-foot building, on .88 acres of property.
The building is positioned between one that houses Orangetheory Fitness and Mattress Firm, and another that formerly was a Kentucky Fried Chicken and is being eyed for a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
The listing notes the building’s proximity to stores such as LL Bean, Walmart and Whole Foods Market, the University of Massachusetts campus and its easy access to Route 9.
