AMHERST — Residents, businesses and institutions that depend on municipal water could be asked to reduce use on certain days and in cases of emergencies this fall.
With Amherst doing ongoing equipment maintenance that includes rehabilitation of the treatment facility at Well No. 4, there could be constraints on the town’s ability to treat to some of its water sources. Town Manager Paul Bockelman said Well No. 4 is expected to be back online by November.
Amherst continues to have an abundant supply of water, but it’s possible that there may be times during September or early October, the peak demand months, where the water system could be strained.
If needed, the town could ask the public to eliminate certain activities, such as watering lawns, washing vehicles, using power washers and filling swimming pools.
Notifications will be issued if water restrictions are imposed.
