At a recent Town Council meeting, members approved a do-over for the North Common that will eliminate the 42 parking places in the lot that is across from Town Hall.
The council is also considering allowing a private developer to construct a second parking garage on a town-owned lot behind the North Pleasant Street CVS that currently has 70 parking places.
Neither town officials nor the parking garage owners could claim to be adding new spaces until they hit No. 113. In addition, the town will suffer the loss of revenue from these heavily used spots unless the garage owners are required to pay rental fees for the use of public property.
The pitch for the second garage is to encourage tourism. If people want to come to town to see the sights, let them get on a bus!
