AMHERST — Up to $6,600 in fines could be levied against people holding loud parties after police responded to noise complaints at three homes early Sunday morning.
The most significant incident came at the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity house on North Pleasant Street, where eight men were arrested, all on charges of violating both the town’s noise and nuisance house bylaws. Fines of up to $300 can be issued for each bylaw violation.
According to call logs supplied by the department, officers responded to the home at 2:29 a.m. for loud music playing and found multiple underage drinkers inside. In addition, disc jockey equipment and strobe lights were located in the basement. Before entering the building, police said an occupant made an obscene gesture at officers and advised them to get a warrant.
Those arrested were: Joshua Cagan, 20, of Holliston; Edward Charles Guazzaloca, 22, of Brewster; Paul Emello, 20, of Belmont; Maxwell J. Gordon, 19, of Pompton, New Jersey; Nicholas G. Koutouvidis, 23, of Kings Park, New York; Ryan A. Malone, 21, of Dedham; Luke Rocco Mann, 22, of Leominster; and Golden Wo, 20, of Boston.
At 1:27 a.m. and 1:38 a.m., police also issued a total of six $300 tickets for violating the town’s noise bylaw to women living at two Railroad Street homes.
At both homes, loud parties were being held and most of the college-age guests were not wearing face coverings or practicing social distancing, police said.
