I read David Sloviter’s guest column on Jan. 29. Specifically, he and some neighbors want to ban parking on his section of Lincoln Avenue on weekdays. He quotes Guilford Mooring, superintendent of public works, but he fails to quote Scott Livingstone, police chief (who was sitting next to Mr. Mooring).
As reported in a local newspaper: “Police Chief Scott Livingstone said that were there no parked cars, it is likely speeds would increase and therefore, increase safety concerns.”
Mr. Sloviter also failed to acknowledge that a number of his neighbors do not agree there is a safety issue. That was the purpose of the March 9 public hearing — to hear all sides, not just one side. And, yes, I think there should be well managed parking on (almost) all town-owned streets in central Amherst.
