NORTHAMPTON — A Granby woman sentenced to life in prison will stay in prison while she awaits an appeal to the verdict of her case, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
Cara Rintala, 53, was convicted in 2016 at her third trial in the March 29, 2010 strangulation and beating death of her wife, Annamarie Cochrane, in their Granby home. The first two trials ended in mistrials because of deadlocked juries.
On Tuesday, a Superior Court judgey denied her request to be released while she awaits her appeal. The Supreme Judicial Court will hear the appeal in April.
