Betty Romer: Why are we focusing on a name change?

With regard to concern for the French and Indian War and the sins of Jeffrey Amherst, how did changing the name of Amherst move to the top of our list of priorities?

What about racism? What about language that wounds, humiliates and denigrates deliberately, or, almost as bad, unknowingly. How about the words of our racist president? The man who dismisses science as false and pretends that the millions who are ill and those who will die and grieve don’t exist? What about those who have no income, no homes and no medical insurance? What about police who kill Black men because they can?

And your contribution to a world crying for justice and help is changing the name of Amherst?
