HADLEY — A former human resources director for the town of Amherst will serve in the same role in Hadley on a temporary basis later this year.

Deborah Radway was recently hired by the Select Board to substitute on a part-time basis when the town’s first human resources director, Edward O’Connor, is called to active duty in the Army Reserves over the summer.

Radway told the board her 36 years of human resources experience includes service in both small and large towns.

“I think it can be put to good use in Hadley,” Radway said.

Radway retired from the position in Amherst in January 2019 to care for an elderly family member.

She will be hired as a vendor and earn $50 per hour, but not receive any benefits. For an estimated nine months of work, she will be paid $32,000.

O’Connor said he anticipates Radway’s focus will be on negotiating contract renewals and performance management while addressing some policy matters.
