Garden report: The primrose and pulmanaria have bloomed.I planted pansies. Andy’s Greenhouse does self -serve and phone orders can be picked up. Other nurseries do the same. I’m following the advice of the Gazette’s gardening column, “Get Growing.”
I planted leek and scallion starts in the raised beds. Four of the sugar snap seeds have germinated. With not much to do, I check on the seeds daily, sometimes twice a day. It is a joy to see things growing.
It is positive to see flowering shrubs and the trees leafing out. Mother Nature doesn’t stop.

Elayne Berger of Amherst sent me the following email. She wrote that is with great regret that the annual League of Women Voters Book Sale will not be held this summer.
The sale had been held for decades, but with the pandemic, the safety and health of League members, who do pricing and sorting, and all the book buyers is paramount. She said there was also an issue with space, not knowing if Fort River would be needed for summer school programs.
Elayne was in charge of the book sale committee this year that held several meetings and made many arrangements.
She also thanks the school department for all their cooperation.

Normally I would have put a reminder in last week’s column about the deadline April 15 for paying state and federal income taxes. With the deadline months away, July 15, a reminder isn’t necessary. But if you have nothing else to do, by all means fill out the forms.

Patriots Day is April 20, a holiday. I could be facetious and say Town Hall, schools and libraries are closed for the holiday.

The Peace Vigil is still held on the Common Sundays at noon. The participants all wore masks and were a safe distance apart.
