My family has long been supportive of locally owned businesses, but my experience last Saturday not only strengthens our loyalty, but is worth the telling.
My spouse, Jeff, and I drove down from Shutesbury to do some needed shopping in Amherst. Jeff dropped me off and then headed over to Amherst Farmers Supply. When finished shopping, he went to start the car but was out of luck because I had the key fob. We both had forgotten our cellphones, which further complicated the situation.
Much to Jeff’s relief, the manager/co-owner of Amherst Farmers Supply, Mickey Grybko, offered to drive over to where I was shopping (by himself because of social distancing) and then had to have me paged at the store in order for me to give him the key for Jeff. This generous effort took a half hour away from Mickey’s busy day at his own store.
Mickey’s help showed again how dedicated so many of our local business people are to all of us within this community — and now more than ever they deserve our support in return.
