The Gazette reported March 6 that a passerby prevented a possible catastrophe when she reported a fire in a business in our East Amherst shopping plaza.
My small business neighbors and I would like to thank the Amherst Fire and Police departments for their prompt and competent response. Our sincere appreciation to everyone involved and everything they do for our community.
We also want to express our gratitude to the UMass student, Amelia Porter, who spotted and reported the fire. With such an astute eye for details and noticing one small piece out of place, she saved our livelihoods. Her call to action won’t be forgotten and carries a debt that we can only hope to repay.
