Irene Starr sent an email writing that she continues to read the Bulletin six years after moving from Amherst. She read the article about Henia Lewin, a Holocaust survivor. Irene wrote a book about her parents’ experiences in Germany before they emigrated in spring 1939.
“When I offered a print version to the Holocaust Museum in DC, the reply was they preferred a digital version which I also had. It is now on the Museum’s website at https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/bib255060. Or one can do a Google search for ushmm stiefel; it usually is the first result.”
Irene will be in Amherst in May.

Terry Johnson of Amherst sent me an email about her second poetry book, “Plunge, ” based upon her father’s experiences in World War II. She has visited these villages over a 40 year span. Information is on her website www.terrysjohnsonpoet.com It’s available at the Collective Copies bookstore and at Amherst Books.
Her summary: “Terry S.Johnson gracefully weaves memory, research and first-hand experience into poignant poems which portray her father and his rescuers behind enemy lines in Italy during World War II as well as her deepening ties to her namesakes and generations of their descendants as she becomes part of Italian village life. “

Bravos and thanks once again to the LSSE Community Theater for producing “Matilda, ” which continues this weekend. The voices were splendid. The coordinated movements by the youngsters was amazing and there were so many of them – movements and kids.
One detail to note-a spotlight flashes into the audience. If you have vision issues be prepared to close your eyes.
