 AMHERST — It’s that time of year again.

Students are headed back to college and university campuses at the end of this month, and with them will come the inevitable traffic of move-in days. And with more than 20,000 undergraduates coming to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the school has issued its yearly warning about traffic.

In a press release, the university said heavy traffic is expected on and around campus from Wednesday through Monday, Sept. 2. The heaviest traffic is expected Friday through Sunday, the university said.

“There will be significant delays entering, exiting and traveling around campus and in the local area,” the press release reads. “Drivers should expect heavy congestion on campus and heavy traffic leading into campus on University Drive, Massachusetts Avenue, Route 9, Route 116 and North Pleasant Street.”

The university went on to warn pedestrians that they should also be alert and use pedestrian walkways and crosswalks.
