HATFIELD — A man was taken to the hospital after a child driver struck and injured him with a car Wednesday morning.

According to Hatfield Police Chief Michael Dekoschak, an 8-year-old boy got into a car on Depot Road and put it into reverse. The boyfriend of the child’s mother tried to stop the car and ended up getting his arm pinched between the car door and a garage door, injuring it.

“It was a significant injury to the arm,” Dekoschak said.

The car traveled about 40 feet from the garage before it was stopped on the lawn by the injured man, Dekoschak said.

The incident call came in at about 8:50 a.m., he said, and Hatfield Police and Hatfield Ambulance responded.

The man was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, according to Dekoschak.

“Obviously, the kid was pretty upset,” said Dekoschak, although he added about the boy and the injured man, “I think they’ll be OK.”
