Amherst Regional senior Sophia Jacobs-Townsley closed her Massachusetts high school running career finishing second in the girls 2-mile run, Saturday at the All-State Championships at Westfield State. The event’s defending champion, she crossed the line in 10 minutes, 51.58 seconds.
Natick’s Grace Connolly won at 10:34.12. No other competitor was under 11 minutes.
The second-place finish qualified her to represent Massachusetts in the New England High School Championship meet Saturday at Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine. A top-six finish qualifies athletes for the meet.
Jacobs-Townsley also placed eighth in the mile (5:09.05).
Isabela Shepard, of Amherst, took seventh in the 400 (59.16).
South Hadley’s Lindsay Marjanski tied for sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Savannah Sudyka finished seventh in the shot put (37-1).
Amherst was 12th in the 4×800 relay in 9:44.92 with a team of Jacobs-Townsley, Shepard, Elizabeth Dole and Zada Forde. South Hadley’s team of Farrell Dawson, Carla Jarrett, Anna Evans and Rondeau was 16th in 9:49.68.
Rondeau finished 13th in the 800 (2:20.76).
The Tigers 4×1 relay of Kayla Carleton, Teagan Gawron, Sudyka and Bella Alcaraz was 17th (52.68). Their 4×4 team (Maddie Doolittle, Lindsay Marjanski, Dawson and Rondeau) also finished 17th (4:08.67).
Paige Marjanski cleared 34-9 in the triple jump to place 21st.
In the boys meet, Amherst’s Kai Bailin took third in the 400 hurdles at 54.3. Frontier Regional’s Phaelon Koski was 19th (59.73).
South Hadley freshman Jonas Clarke took fifth in the 100 in 10.87 seconds. He was 10th in the 200 (22.38).
Belchertown’s Zachary Bail was 13th (1:58.59) in the 800. Teammate Evan Dunigan took 20th in the mile (4:31.92).
