AMHERST — An Amherst man who allegedly attempted to steal prescription medication from a drop-off box in the lobby of the Amherst police station on Main Street was arrested last Wednesday afternoon, according to Amherst police.

Jeremy Allan Wilder, 32, who provided an address as the streets of Amherst, was arrested at 12:46 p.m. in the police station on a charge of larceny of drugs, said Amherst Detective Marcus Humber. Wilder’s arrest came less than 24 hours after he was arrested on Amity Street on a warrant, and a short time after returning from an arraignment at the Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.

Humber said Wilder was observed by officers and caught on a video surveillance camera in the lobby, removing bottles of prescription medication placed in the MedReturn Box, a program of the Northwestern district attorney’s office that promotes the safe disposal of unwanted and out-of-date drugs.

Wilder was at the police station to get belongings back that were being held during his arraignment, Humber said.
