Regarding East-West rail: This is an extremely important project, especially with the tens of thousands of college students in our vicinity, many of whom are very “transit oriented” and many of whom hail from the metropolitan areas around Boston.
If we had regular, reliable East-West rail service with a station in Palmer and a rail shuttle to Amherst, we’d also be able to significantly reduce the number of cars in the Valley, improving air quality, staving off climate change, and providing added incentives to improve local public transit.
