AMHERST — A man who got stuck in a basement window while entering a South Amherst home was freed with assistance from firefighters last Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched to The Brook condominiums at 170 East Hadley Road at 5:07 p.m. after the man wedged himself into the window.
Police officers, who were also on scene, determined that the man was a house sitter for the condo owner and that he had agreed to use the basement window to get into the home, rather than being provided a key to use the main entrance.
Acting Fire Capt. David J. Dion said because of how tiny the space was, and its position in a cement wall, the man was unable to free himself once he was stuck.
Public safety personnel didn’t have to use any special techniques in the rescue, Dion said, although the man needed to remove some of his clothes before he could be freed.
“It took us a few times, but all we did was pull him out,” Dion said.
