April has begun. We have turned a weather corner. The willow is starting to glow with that pale green hue, while leaf buds on other trees are getting bigger. I see crocus and daffodils have opened. Earth Day is April 22.

Condolences to the family and friends of Ray Elliott. He was a drum major for justice. He spoke of the racism he experienced at schools, to veterans and in the community. He made a positive difference with the many organizations he was involved in that helped make us a better community.

He was gentle, kind, courteous. He persisted and he persevered. He will be missed.

She wrote that while town offices will be closed for Patriot’s Day, April 15, the Bangs Center will be open for a soup-and-sandwich meal and concert by musician Donna Lee from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $10 and is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Amherst Senior Center.

She added that those interested in the Boston Marathon, the flat-screen TV in the lounge will be tuned to race results.

Tickets are available at the Senior Center, or call 259-3060.
