Town Council candidate Steve Schreiber, due to his nearly 10 years of service on the Planning Board, is a lightning rod for those who have both big issues and small quibbles with new development in town, from building height to setbacks. But as one of Steve’s many supporters, I feel that it’s important to have his detailed knowledge of planning, zoning and finance at the Town Council table.
Steve is a practicing architect, chair of the Department of Architecture at UMass, and an artist. Not only is he superbly qualified for this important role at this critical moment in Amherst’s future, but anyone who knows Steve trusts that he will bring his trademark humility, patience, and wisdom to the job. Smart development is going to be a huge issue for our new town council, along with the expansion of a number of important public buildings. Let’s vote for somebody who understands the issues from hands-on experience and knows how to listen.
