I am writing with great sadness about the passing of John Fox of Amherst. He died suddenly while in Australia where he and his wife were visiting their daughter.
John will be greatly missed for his activism and commitment to Amherst. He was frequently involved in town politics, always with kindness, integrity, and a willingness to listen.
His approach was one of informed common sense with the goal of the greatest good for the wider community as his focus. He was eager to find the common ground for solutions to complicated issues. Never one to accept self-serving proposals at the expense of others, he was always open to compromise.
John’s legacy is one of integrity and the willingness to stand for what makes sense for the community. The shocking suddenness of his passing makes the loss even more difficult to accept.
