‘Happy Wanderings’ art exhibit 

From June 2-29, come experience “Happy Wanderings,” a new art exhibit featuring the color-saturated, abstract paintings of Amherst’s Laurie DeVault. The artist’s solo show includes more than 20 pieces representing her various styles and capturing her playful exploration of painting. The opening reception will be held Thursday, June 7, 5-8 p.m. at the Burnett Gallery, located on the second floor of the Jones Library, 43 Amity St., Amherst. North Hall Arts Festival

The historic North Halls Arts Festival is giving a tribute to “Shakespeare’s Women, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and more,” with its upcoming lineup featuring, among others, the Thomas Bergeron Quartet, and Duo Mundo: Rebecca Hartka/Jose Lezcano. This season, from May 26 through Sept. 16, there will be 10 music/theater events, including opera, jazz, folk, funk and an original play reading. Hosted by the North Hall Association, the performances are taking place at Historic North Hall, 40 Searle Rd. (off Rte 66), Huntington. Admission varies depending on the event. Hosmer Gallery seeks local artists

Calling all western Massachusetts artists in all media: From May 14 through June 15, you are invited to apply to exhibit work in the Hosmer Gallery at Forbes Library. Submissions are due by June 15, and exhibits will take place between Dec. 2018 and Dec. 2019.

Forbes is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2019. To celebrate, the gallery will display historical materials from the library’s archives alongside the work of local artists, according to press notes: “We are particularly interested in art that contributes to the celebration of our community’s past, present and future.”

“Criteria for review include technical and artistic quality, a coherent theme, and contribution to an interesting and varied program for the year. Artists living and working in the greater Northampton area are eligible to apply. First-time exhibitors, individuals and groups are welcome.”
