SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

3:15 pm. – Three men drinking alcohol and yelling obscenities in the parking lot at The Boulders fled before police got there.

DISTURBANCES

8:48 p.m – Police spoke to a man and woman in an argument that began on a PVTA bus when she was awoken while trying to sleep. The couple continued to argue as they headed toward the Craig’s Place homeless shelter.

RECOVERED PROPERTY

1:30 pm.. – A hunting knife and ammunition for a pistol located at a Colonial Village home were confiscated for destruction.

LARCENY

12:57 p.m. – Police are investigating a past shoplifting incident reported at Big Y Supermarket.

TUESDAY, APRIL 10

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:20 a.m. and 2:35 a.m. – People loitering in downtown ATMs were removed.

6:01 p.m. – Two children seen throwing rocks at passing vehicles from a West Street paring lot were not located.

DISTURBANCES

9:29 p.m. – Police kept the peace between a teenage boy and his father at Village Park. The boy was upset because he lost access to his cellphone as part of discipline for misbehaving.

11:41 a.m. – Chickens were reported wandering loose on Ward Street.

ACCIDENTS

4 p.m. – One driver was issued a citation for driving in a bicycle lane on South Pleasant Street after the vehicle hit an open door on a parked vehicle, police said.

TRAFFIC

7:08 p.m. – Police advised a company that brought a port-a-potty to Wildflower Drive for contractors to move it to a different location so it wouldn’t block a stop sign.

3:44 a.m. – A small trash can fire behind a West Street restaurant was extinguished by a police officer.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

11:16 p.m – A loud noise inside a Pine Street home was determined to be a picture displayed on the wall that fell to the floor.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

7:09 p.m. – Northampton Road residents told police a man spent time in their yard earlier piling pieces of concrete curbing. Police identified the man, who was already gone, and the Department of Public Works was notified to clean up the debris.

ACCIDENTS

3:31 p.m. – Both vehicles were towed following a two-car crash with no injuries at the intersection of East Pleasant Street and Pokeberry Ridge, police said.

12:31 p.m. – A man holding a sign and an aspiring filmmaker creating a documentary about the man were both advised to leave the middle of the roundabout on Triangle Street. At 1:30 p.m., a third man in the area with a sign disparaging the other sign holder was warned about his actions. Police went back to the scene again at 2:17 p.m. when the original man with a sign had works threatening millennials printed on it.

9:55 a.m. – Police assisted firefighters with clearing smoke coming from a residence at The Boulders. The smoke was caused by a pan left on a hot stove.

THURSDAY, APRIL 12

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

1:19 a.m. – Police removed a person sleeping inside a downtown ATM.

9:10 a.m. – A man was reported inside a downtown ATM allegedly snorting a substance. Police spoke to the man, who said he was just banking and not doing anything illegal.

10:40 p.m. – The source of screaming sounds heard in the area of Spencer Drive was not found. Police said it may have been a fisher.

10:53 p.m. – Police issued a warning to Phillips Street residents throwing beer cans from their porch.

LARCENY

10:02 p.m. – An Amherst pizza shop took a $100 order and delivered it to a North Pleasant Street home, only to learn that the residents had not ordered the pizza. Police are looking into the possible prank.

10:57 p.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to North Prospect Street rrsidents talking loudly and playing loud music.

12:34 p.m. – A man standing in the middle of the Triangle Street roundabout was removed by police.

12:15 p.m. – A small fire that began with a discarded cigarette outside a downtown business was extinguished by Amherst firefighters.

FRIDAY, APRIL 13

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:31 a.m., 1:04 a.m. and 1:34 a.m. – Four people urinating next to downtown businesses were warned and sent on their way.

10:51 p.m. – A man who had used cocaine was located at a downtown bar. He turned over the remaining class B substance to police, who continue to investigate the incident. No charges have been filed against him.

LARCENY

4:35 p.m. – A resident told police someone fraudulently filed her taxes before she filed her returns.

5:07 p.m. – Police are investigating whether a person with a bicycle on Amity Street had stolen it from a residence where the homeowners are on vacation.

5:24 p.m. – A man seeking a job over the Internet informed police that he was the victim of a check-cashing scheme.

ACCIDENTS

4:21 a.m. – A vehicle that went off Pulpit Hill Road into a tree was towed, police said.

11:02 a.m. – A two-car accident with possible injuries was reported on College Street, police said.

1:42 p.m. – A tractor-trailer truck knocked over a utility pole at the corner of College and Dickinson streets, police said. The crash caused a brief road closure.

3:44 p.m. – Police were notified about a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Pine and North Pleasant streets. The offending vehicle was not located, according to police.

6:31 p.m. – A vehicle struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Amity Street and University Drive and fled the scene, police said. The person suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to police.

1:19 p.m. – Police removed a man standing in the middle of the roundabout on Triangle Street.

3:14 p.m. – Police took a call about college-age people walking in the middle of Northampton Road. Officers determined they were heading to a registered party.

4:11 p.m. – College-age people walking in the middle of Main Street told police they were chasing after a PVTA bus after it left the location before they could board it.

SATURDAY, APRIL 14

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

9:21 a.m. – Four homeless people loitering near a downtown bank were sent on their way.

6:48 p.m. – A man allegedly filming women at a downtown restaurant was identified. He allowed police to examine his smart phone, which revealed that he hadn’t taken any photos or created any videos of the customers.

2 p.m. – A person injured while hiking at the Notch was assisted out from the woods.

DISTURBANCES

3:50 a.m. – Four men involved in an incident in a parking lot at The Boulders fled.

11:47 p.m. – People challenging others to fights on Main Street were gone when police got there.

11:54 p.m. – A woman called police to report an out-of-control party on Main Street. Officers determined the party was not creating any problems and that the caller was just trying to get retaliation for being denied entry.

NOISE COMPLAINTS

2:16 a.m. – Police issued a verbal warning to Alpine Commons residents holding a loud birthday party.

8:28 p.m. – A verbal warning was issued by police to The Boulders residents playing loud music.

TRAFFIC

12:31 a.m. – A stop sign was removed from Taylor and Gray streets. Police notified the Department of Public Works and installed a temporary stop sign.

1:11 a.m. – Police issued a ticket to the driver of an Uber vehicle parked blocking the Central Fire Station entrance who also had passengers consuming alcohol. Another Uber driver who was double parked in front of the downtown bars was warned about the violation.

1:15 a.m. – Police found an overcrowded vehicle on Main Street, with one person in the trunk and another person filming the activity. The driver was issued a citation for impeded operation.

1:31 p.m. – Amherst Police assisted Hadley Police in searching for shoplifting suspects.

SUNDAY, APRIL 15

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:33 a.m. – An intoxicated man who tried to force his way into an Amherst cruiser parked in front of the downtown bars was brought home by his girlfriend before causing any more trouble.

12:50 a.m. – Police warned a man to stay off the train tracks after he was observed running from College Street onto the overpass near the Amherst College campus.

1:01 a.m. – Officers sent a man on his way after he urinated on a Triangle Street building.

1:16 a.m. – People loitering in the lobby of a downtown business were advised to stay out. They told police they were staying warm while waiting for their Uber ride.

CITIZEN ASSISTANCE

7:59 p.m. – A West Street woman called police after she refused to pay her landlord rent and, when he told her he would wait outside her home for her to make payment, she left through a window. The woman said she was scared the landlord might enter the dwelling because of the issue, and at 9:19 p.m. the landlord began banging on the door and demanding she make payment or she would be evicted. He was advised to go through a civil process if he intended to evict her.

4:48 a.m. – Police assisted West Street residents trying to clear guests from a party that was breaking up.
