Conor Lamb beat GOP incumbent state representative Rick Saccone by 627 votes, or less than three-tenths of 1 percent of the votes cast in a special election in the 18th Congressional District in Pennsylvania. Those votes made the difference between Saccone, who in his book “The Unseen War in Iraq,” argues for the use of torture in prisoner interrogations, and Lamb, a centrist Democrat who supports expanded health care, a woman’s right to choose, and stronger background checks for gun purchases.
Thanks to all those Pennsylvania voters who came out to keep the pro-torture Saccone out of congress, and let it be a reminder to us all that our vote does make a difference.
